If I could spend one day more with you,
I know in my heart just what we’d do.
We’d start with some tea—a pot for two,
I’d pour it out, a whole cup for you.
I’d bake you a cake, chocolate with cream,
You’d lick the bowl ‘til it’s sparkling clean.
Then it’s time for a walk; woods or park?
Wherever we go, you’d bark and bark.
We’d enjoy the fresh air one last time,
You’d look up at me, your eyes would shine.
We’d walk through the trees, your tail would wag,
You’re quick on your feet, there’d be no lag.
We’d head for home when the sun sets low,
Time for food—mince and sweet potato.
Sofa cuddles, you’ll sleep while I read,
Our time runs short, my darling Evie.
Lay your head on my lap, close your eyes,
Run my hands through your fur one last time.
For thirteen years, you’ve been by my side,
My dear companion, my joy and pride.
Now, little moo, it’s time—you must go,
Across the bridge, the magic rainbow.
You’re no longer here, nor are you gone,
You’re in my heart, just where you belong.
