It’s time for my next author interview! I met Maddie through Twitter, where she very kindly reached out to offer an author interview. She writes YA contemporary fiction and is also a Mental Health Advocate.
I’ll hand you right over to Maddie to tell you more…

Hello! So, first of all – tell me a little bit about yourself!
Hi, all! I’m Maddie White. I’m twenty-five years old and I live in a small town with my husband who was my highschool sweetheart and our two cats. I’m a Mental Health Advocate, blogger promoting authors, and avid reader. I’ve been in love with creating stories and characters since I was old enough to write. As an only child, my imagination kept me occupied a lot.
What’s the name of your book? Can you give a brief outline of the plot (spoiler-free, of course)?

My book is :08 SECONDS. It’s a small town romance between a girl who was previously in an abusive relationship and a boy with dreams of becoming a professional bull rider. There is a trigger warning for domestic violence for this book. I wrote about that topic because I had a close friend who went through something similar. I hope to inspire people in that situation that there IS more out there and lots of options. They’re never stuck.
When is your book available? Where can we get our hands on it?
My book is out now! You can get it here.
Why do you write in your chosen genre? What’s your favourite thing about it?
I write in Young Adult Fiction because I think a lot of us can relate to that time in our lives. It’s a time where everything, even the small things, seem like they’re so big. Everything seems so important. Love is so strong and the feelings are so intense. It’s really fun to revisit that.
What got you into writing? What do you enjoy most about it?
I really got into writing stories for fun when I was around 12. My friends and I would write quick little fanfictions just for ourselves and swap them back and forth. I loved creating suspense for them and it’s a feeling I still cherish. I want to make my readers feel so involved in what’s going on that they’re almost disoriented when they look up from the page and remember that there’s other things happening.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
Read! I love to read or watch tv. I really just love seeing a story unfold in various ways and platforms. I also spend a lot of time with my family.
What’s your favourite book from childhood? Has it influenced you as a writer?
I remember the very first book I cried while reading was A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. It was the first time I was really sad to leave a story and characters and that is something I try to emulate as a writer. I want my characters to challenge people to be better, to feel stronger and confident in themselves, and to never stop trying to reach their dreams.
